“I just owe it to all the guys, the coaches, the staff, the players, everybody that’s involved to really be critical of what we’re putting on film, what I’m seeing and make sure I’m making the best decision for the team every week,” Canales said. “And it happens to be the quarterback position and so it’s loaded that way, but it’s every position and it’s all the guys. And I was able to get in front of the team and challenge all the guys that we all have to elevate our passion for what we do to play.”

Canales reiterated his faith in Bryce Young, but the two have combined for 204 passing yards and 13 points this season while converting just 2 of 22 third-down attempts.

By selecting the experienced Andy Dalton, they hope to benefit from the experience the Pro Bowler has gained in his 14 years at the position.

In 163 career starts, Dalton has a record of 83-78-2, with 246 touchdowns and 144 interceptions, and a career passer rating of 87.6. He started one game last year at Seattle and threw for a season-high 334 yards.
