Anna Delvey‘S Dancing with the stars debut had the entire ballroom talking, including the jury Carrie Ann Inabawho felt a ‘shift in energy’ among the crowd.

Delvey, 33, and partner Ezra Sosa however felt no tangible change.

“When we go out and dance, it’s just the two of us on the dance floor, and we honestly don’t do that,” Sosa, 23, exclusively told We weekly after the live premiere on Tuesday, September 17. “Even when we were done dancing, we weren’t really thinking about applause or anything.”

Delvey and Sosa danced a cha-cha on Sabrina Timmerman‘s “Espresso” — including the glitter-adorned ankle bracelet — on Tuesday, scoring 18 out of 30. Afterward, Inaba, 56, offered her support.

No one was eliminated on the season 33 premiere of Dancing With the Stars, so 13 duos are still keeping their mirrorball trophy dreams alive. The stars danced to songs they consider their personal anthems on the Tuesday, September 17, premiere episode, which meant the musical selections ranged from pop to (…)

“I just want to say, let’s all give this a chance, because I can imagine this was scary for you,” Inaba said during her radio critique. “And I’m not for or against anything you’ve done, but this is about your dancing here. Let’s all give her that space, please.”

Delvey, who had previously been convicted of theft, was unaware of the audience’s reaction to the performance.

“It’s hard to say because we just came off stage,” Delvey said Us. “I don’t know yet how the audience reacted, so it’s hard to say.”

Overall, Delvey found the live premiere to be a “wonderful experience.”

“I’m glad the night is over,” she joked Tuesday. “I think I could have done a little bit better with my dancing. I think I performed better in rehearsals, but it was a great experience. I’ve never performed in front of a live audience before and hopefully I can get better in the future.”

Sosa’s best friend and former DWTS competitor, JoJo Siwa was spotted in the crowd cheering on the bride and groom.

At the time, many celebrities reacted to the news of the former (…)

“It was such a serendipity because Ezra is best friends with JoJo and JoJo’s season is the only season I happened to watch because I was in prison,” Delvey said. Us. “I don’t watch that much television.”

Siwa, 21, even gave the couple some advice before they hit the dance floor.

“She literally pulled me aside and was like, ‘Can I talk to him for a minute?’ And she was really sweet,” Sosa enthused. “My journey with JoJo is more about her helping me express my sexuality and everything. So she just showed me a picture of me when I wasn’t out and was like, ‘Make sure you know who you’re dancing for. You’re dancing for him.’ And I just started crying and it was just such a beautiful moment.”

In preparation for Sosa and Delvey’s ballroom debut, a band was formed during rehearsals.

“I think Ezra appreciates my sense of humor,” Delvey said Us. “Not everyone would do that, so that was a big plus because I didn’t want to censor myself in front of my dance partner.”

According to Sosa, he found Delvey’s “dry sense of humor” “very funny” amid the glossy DWTS world.

Dancing With the Stars season 33 features a cast that brings together professional athletes, reality TV royalty, models and more to compete for the coveted Len Goodman Memorial Mirrorball Trophy. “I think it’s going to be a really good season. “She makes me laugh so hard,” Sosa joked to Usadding that he even wanted to wear matching anklets for their performance on Tuesday. “I think they’re going to wait for that later in the season.”

Delvey had been granted a waiver by ICE to move from New York to California for DWTS as long as she wore an ankle monitor. (Delvey’s prison sentence caused her to overstay the validity of her existing visa.)

While Delvey previously said Us that she wasn’t worried about dancing with the ankle bracelet, but that she still got a blister from it during her first dance rehearsal.

“But it stopped,” she said. “It’s strange how it behaves, but now they’ve put a little bit of padding on it. Overall, it’s pretty light.”

Dancing with the stars will air simultaneously on ABC and Disney+ on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET. Episodes will be available to stream the following day on Hulu and Disney+.
