Anna Delvey cried in bathroom after negative reactions at ‘DWTS’ premiere, partner Ezra Sosa says ‘it broke my heart’

Anna Delvey’s “Dancing With the Stars” partner Ezra Sosa revealed that the “fake heiress” struggled with the backlash over her casting on the show.

In a TikTok video shared on Monday, the professional dancer thanked his fans for showing him so much “love” following his week 1 debut — only to reveal that Delvey didn’t receive the same support.

“I felt so much positivity, but my partner didn’t get that,” Sosa said.

“I think the hardest part of my day was after our press line, she was reading the comments and then we couldn’t find her,” he continued, wiping away tears. “They finally found her in the bathroom and she was crying.”

Sosa said he had “never seen Delvey show so much emotion” and that it “broke his heart.”

“As her partner, I just want to give her the best experience that she can possibly have,” he continued. “And knowing that that’s not the case, it really broke my heart.

Delvey, born Anna Sorokin, served time in prison for posing as a fake German heiress and defrauding wealthy individuals, banks and corporations of more than $250,000.

While Sosa admitted that what Delvey did was “controversial” and “not right,” he asked fans to give her a “second chance.”

“I could never justify that to her or anyone in her life,” he said. “But it’s really hard because this person that I really fall in love with every day in rehearsal is not the person that everyone sees in the media.”

“Nobody deserves the amount of hate she is getting right now,” he added.

Sosa concluded the video by praising the convicted fraudster for “taking responsibility” and telling fans he “can’t wait” to see how much she’s “improved” in Week 2.

Delvey caused quite a stir last month when she was announced as one of the contestants for season 33 of the popular dance competition series, with many fans wondering why ABC would give a criminal a platform.

Delvey — wearing a blinged-out ankle bracelet — performed a cha cha to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” at the premiere last week. The dance earned her a combined score of 18/30 from the judges.

At the end of Delvey’s performance, judge Carrie Ann Inaba addressed criticism of her casting.

She told viewers that they may not agree with her taking part in the show, but that they should at least “give her a chance” as she works just as hard as her competitors during rehearsals every week.

While longtime “DWTS” supporter Cheryl Burke “agreed” with Inaba’s comments, she admitted that some people “may have found it a little inappropriate” during an exclusive interview with Page Six.

Burke also criticised the show’s decision to have Delvey perform last of all the couples, saying it sucked the energy out of the room.

“To end like that after such a high… because the show just kept getting better and better (up until then),” she argued.

Burke also noted that Delvey needs to break down some walls and show her “vulnerability” if she wants to get far in the competition.

“Dancing With the Stars” returns Tuesday for “Oscars Night” at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
