Rightists online are cheering the destruction of what they say is the final boss of the awakening: pronouns in biography.

The final battle was fought last week when newly elected President Donald Trump emerged victorious. As some conservatives explain it, the exemplar of leftist ideology, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), in an act of obsequious allegiance, removed “she/her” from her X profile.

There’s just one major problem with the nascent theory.

Conservatives claim victory over AOC’s pronouns

“JUST IN,” bellowed TikTok’s right-wing account Libs, trumpeting the news as if it were the second coming. “AOC has removed her pronouns from her bio.”

Conservatives online called it a complete capitulation to their worldview.

“Note: @AOC has removed the pronouns from her bio Lmaoooooooo. Total surrender,” wrote the user Comfortably smug.

“This election killed the woke era,” he boasted another user.

In the wake of Trump’s victory – and his winning of majorities in both the House of Representatives and the Senate – the online right post-facto declared the election a referendum on wokeness.

“What we saw with this election result is that mentality being crushed,” declared Piers Morgan.

“Cultural victory,” wrote @autismcapital.

“AOC, once the face of ‘woke’ culture, has dropped her pronouns – a clear sign that the ‘woke’ movement is on its last legs,” one person wrote.

Centrists haven’t helped matters, with popular pundits like Matt Yglesias saying the Democrats’ path back to popularity requires the party to assert that “biological sex” is not a social construct.

Others, however, attributed AOC’s decision to remove her pronouns as an attempt to reconnect with the Hispanic community, claiming they left Democrats to decide on “gender ideology.”

“If you’re wondering why AOC ditched her pronouns in her biography, it may have something to do with the mass exodus from the Democratic Party by Hispanic voters. Many have conservative values and are not happy with the gender ideology.” wrote a poster.

The claim is completely false

Conservative voters have long decried the use of pronouns, seeing it as a radical infringement on their right to determine someone else’s gender and refer to it as they wish. For them, it is symptomatic of a worldview that they believe is too tolerant of LGBTQ rights.

But whatever their problem with basic pronouns, their analysis is completely off.

AOC removed her pronouns in her

That seems to hold a pretty big key to the idea that Trump’s victory has defeated her progressive positioning.
