The Manning dynasty appears to be in safe hands with its newest quarterback in Arch Manning. The 19-year-old delivered a breakout performance worthy of the name in the Texas Longhorns’ 56-7 win over the UTSA Roadrunners on Saturday.

Manning’s uncles – Peyton and Eli – have won four Super Bowls and three Super Bowl MVP awards together, were both first-round draft picks and became NFL legends during their careers.

The college quarterback also shares his name with his grandfather and former NFL quarterback Archie Manning.

But the teenager seems to thrive under the added pressure of expectations and pressure, accounting for five of the Longhorns’ touchdowns in the blowout win — the most for a freshman at the school since 2006.

Manning was thrown into the game in the second quarter when Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers was forced off the field with an injury.

The redshirt freshman went on to throw for 223 yards and complete nine of 12 passes, resulting in four touchdowns.

But it was on the field that Manning stunned the 101,892 fans in attendance by running 67 yards to the end zone, outpacing defenders to further extend the Longhorns’ lead.

“As a reserve, you never know when you’re going to be called into the game,” Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian told reporters after the game, praising Manning’s performance.

Sarkisian said the reserve players train hard, but playing a match yourself is a completely different experience.

“There’s nothing like being in the game and playing and playing in front of 105,000 people. That’s not the easiest thing to do, so I was very proud of Arch and what he was able to do,” he added.

Manning is a highly touted prospect, his talent—and name—having long been earmarked for success in football. Before committing to Texas, he broke his high school records for career passing yards and touchdowns in 2022, previously held by his uncles, Eli and Peyton.

With Ewers potentially sidelined for a while, Manning could get more games as coach of the Longhorns.
