Sometimes a bye week is just what the proverbial doctor ordered for an NFL team.

That appears to be the case in Week 10 for the Seahawks, who have lost four of their past five games after starting the 2024 season 3-0. Geno Smith has endured some red zone trouble with DK Metcalf getting hurt; the offensive line looked gassed last time against the Rams – rest was desperately needed.

But Mike Macdonald’s side probably won’t spend the entire week on R&R. Seattle is now 4-5 and in last place in the NFC West, one of the NFL’s most competitive divisions. However, the Seahawks are only a half-game behind the reigning NFC champion 49ers and the Rams, and one game behind the Cardinals.

With the right mindset and a little luck with the injury report, Seattle could very easily find their way back into the playoffs during the second half of the season. That starts with a huge challenge against the reigning NFC champion 49ers on November 17.

It doesn’t get much tougher than a road game against the Niners in Santa Clara, especially if Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle are all healthy. And things don’t really get better from there, with games against the Cardinals and a cross-country trip to the Meadowlands to take on the Jets. Then it’s the Packers, Vikings, Bears and Rams in a quiet, brutal end to the season.

Metcalf will need to get healthy, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Kenneth Walker will need to step up as well. The defense will also need to return to dominance, something that is entirely possible given the elite secondary and underrated front seven.
