Argentina vs Bolivia player ratings: Lionel Messi’s incredible hat-trick and two assists lead La Albiceleste to six-goal victory in World Cup qualifying

Lionel Messi scored five goals as Argentina defeated Bolivia 6-0 in a stunning performance in front of their home fans

Messi’s magic was on full display at the Estadio Mas Monumental on Tuesday evening.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner put on a show for Argentine fans around the world, recording two assists and scoring a hat-trick in a 6-0 defeat to Bolivia in CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying.

With five goals he was the star of the evening and showed why many around the world consider him the GOAT.

Inter Miami’s talisman opened the scoring to make it 1-0, thanks to a defensive error by Bolivia in the 19th minute. He then assisted their second, a tap-in from Lautaro Martinez after Messi drove past both centre-backs into the penalty area. The third, a goal from Julian Alvarez, came from a quick free-kick from the MLS star, which found the Atletico Madrid striker to make it 3-0 in first-half stoppage time.

After a series of substitutions, La Albiceleste added a fourth in the 70th minute from ex-Atlanta United man Thiago Almada, who came powerfully off the bench. The final two goals of the match, in the 84th and 86th minutes, both came from Messi, who stunningly secured his hat-trick.

The 37-year-old cut the ball home on his weaker right foot and placed his second of the match into the bottom right corner of the net. To complete the trifecta, he played a brilliant one-two with Nico Paz before smashing the ball home within a tight time limit to make it 6-0.

With the victory, La Albiceleste remains at the top of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying standings, with 22 points from 10 matches played.
