Arsenal overtake Chelsea in race to sign striker in last-minute move

Arsenal are still looking for new players on the transfer market, with only five days left.

The Gunners have bolstered their defence and midfield this summer, but further reinforcements are needed if they are to overturn Manchester City’s dominance in the Premier League.

The North Londoners have been linked with a move for a striker all summer, but manager Mikel Arteta has confidence in the club’s current attacking options.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen have all been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

According to Repubblica, Arsenal have overtaken Chelsea in the race for Napoli’s Nigerian striker Osimhen.

Both Premier League rivals are looking to add a striker to their squad and have identified Osimhen as one of their targets.

The Serie A striker has been one of the best players in the world in his position for some time now.

Victor Osimhen to Arsenal?

In 2022/23, Osimhen led the Italian giants to Serie A success, winning the league title and showing he can perform consistently at the top level.

Napoli want to sell the forward, having already signed Romelu Lukaku to lead the attack under manager Antonio Conte next season.

Osimhen is keen to leave the club and the Serie A giants believe a move to the Premier League is the only solution for the striker.

Arsenal lead rivals Chelsea in race for Victor Osimhen

According to the report, Napoli would rather let the attacker go to Arsenal than Chelsea.

A quick solution is needed to the Osimhen situation as the end of the transfer window is fast approaching.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be prepared to pursue their interest in the prolific forward once it becomes apparent that Arteta has made peace with his current attacking options.

Osimhen would be ideal for the Gunners and would provide them with a ruthless presence in attack, but the question remains: can Arsenal afford to sign him this summer?
