  • Austin Ekeler took a scary hit near the end of the Commanders’ loss to the Cowboys on Sunday, as the Washington running back lay motionless on the field afterward.

Ekeler was returning the kickoff late in the fourth quarter when he was hit in the head by Dallas’ Damone Clark – before also hitting his head hard on the ground.

Ekeler then lay flat on his stomach on the ground while his teammates signaled for medical help.

Players from both teams also knelt as the game was paused and Ekeler was treated.

The running back was eventually able to leave the field – very slowly – with the help of the commander’s staff.

Commandants coach Dan Quinn confirmed to reporters after the game that Ekeler had suffered a concussion.

However, Ekeler did not look stable.

As usual with especially explicit injuries, FOX did not show a repeat of the hit on TV.

The commanders have not yet commented on the injury, other than posting a prayer hands emoji along with Ekeler’s name on X.

Ekeler returned the ball to the 36-yard line on the play – which started with just 14 seconds left – but the Commanders would lose to Dallas 34-26 after a wild back-and-forth game.

Washington trailed by 10 with 2:49 left on a KaVontae Turpin touchdown kick return, but answered with a field goal and a long Terry McLaurin touchdown.

However, Washington kicker Austin Seibert missed his second extra point of the day with just 21 seconds left after McLaurin’s score, meaning Washington still trailed by a point.

Dallas then added another score for emphasis when Juanyeh Thomas returned the ensuing onside kick for a touchdown.

Ekeler finished the game 24 yards from scrimmage.
