Baker Mayfield looks to put ZYN on the Buccaneers sideline

When things go as bad as they did on Monday for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, you need something to take the edge off.

To start the third quarter of a still closely contested game against the Ravens, Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield appeared to grab a ZYN nicotine pouch and put it in his mouth while sitting on the bench.

The Ravens started the second half with the ball and went on a drive that took a total of 2:40 of playing time and ended in a field goal, so Mayfield was probably done with this sack on the play.

We all remember the days when Keith Hernandez smoked a cigarette in the dugout while manning first base for the Mets teams of the late 1980s, but this is a different time.

Mayfield has become a team leader in his second season in Tampa Bay after leading the team to the NFC South title a year ago.

The ZYN bag didn’t do him any favors in the second half, however, as the team seemed to fall apart when Mike Evans went down with a hamstring injury.

With the Bucs leading 10-7 in the second quarter, Mayfield hit Evans in the hands with a pinpoint touchdown that fell as the receiver writhed in pain and was taken to the locker room before being immediately ejected.

An interception ended that drive, and everything fell apart from there.

Mayfield finished the game with 370 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in the 41-31 loss.

With the game in the final minutes, Chris Godwin was also lost due to a dislocated ankle, ending his season.

Tampa Bay now has the daunting task of hosting the Falcons for a short week without their top two wide receivers.

Perhaps their quarterback needs a few more ZYNs to keep his cool as he tries to develop chemistry with backups Trey Palmer, Jalen McMillan and ex-Giant Sterling Shepard as he scours the practice squad for depth options.
