Bank of America Chicago Marathon 2024: 50,000 Runners Ready for 46th Annual 42.2-Mile Race Through Neighborhoods

CHICAGO (WLS) — It is the day when athletes have trained for hundreds, if not thousands, of hours. The 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

On Sunday, 50,000 athletes will run through 29 Chicago neighborhoods.

The race starts and ends in Grant Park.

Many athletes also run to support various charities.

In fact, last year, more than $30 million was raised by runners for more than 200 organizations.

The first wave of athletes doesn’t leave until 7:30 am

Last year, Kelvin Kiptum finished the marathon in 2:00:35 with an overall pace of 2:52 minutes per mile.

He broke the world record in the marathon. Sadly, Kiptum died in a car accident in Kenya in February.

Before the race starts, a moment of silence will be held in Kiptum’s honor.
