If elected, Harris would become the first woman, the first Black woman and the first person of South Asian descent to become president. Polls show her actually tied with Trump in Michigan and several other key swing states that will likely decide the election.

With two weeks to go until the November 5 elections, Democratic candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris is today sending a potentially powerful poet to Detroit to strengthen her position in Michigan: former President Barack Obama.

The campaign has been notably unclear about when and where exactly Obama will speak, but as he hits the campaign trail on behalf of his fellow Democrat, he is expected to get significant help in Michigan today, with CNN reporting that Detroit rapper Eminem will former president.

Sending Obama, the first black president, to Michigan could be a big boost for Harris, who faces Republican former President Donald Trump in the election. Obama won the state handily in 2008 and 2012, with strong support from black voters in Detroit. This year, both campaigns have struggled to attract black voters, with Democrats expressing some concern that some black men were drifting toward supporting Trump.
