Beyoncé congratulates Linda Martell on her first Grammy nomination

Beyoncé posted a sweet congratulations to Linda Martell on Friday after the country pioneer finally received her first Grammy nomination for her feature in “Spaghettii” on Cowboy Carter.

“Congratulations to my queen Linda Martell on your nomination and your contribution to country music,” Bey wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of Martell.

Martell was the first black female solo artist to play Nashville’s famed Grand Ole Opry. She fell as a footnote in country history, but today is known as a pioneer for the genre, made all the more so by her Grammy nomination for Best Melodic Rap Performance Friday.

In addition to ‘Spaghettii’, Martell also appeared in the eponymous ‘The Linda Martell Show’ on the album. “I’m proud that Beyoncé is exploring her roots in country music,” Martell said in a statement Cowboy Carter came out. “What she is doing is beautiful, and I am honored to be a part of it. After all, it’s Beyoncé!”

Martell’s nod is one of many Cowboy Carter, who leads this year’s Grammys with 11 nominations. The album and its songs not only spanned the three major categories of Song, Record and Album of the Year, but also received nominations in the Country, Rap, Pop and Americana categories. Shaboozey, who also appeared on “Spaghettii” with Martell and Queen Bey, received several nominations for “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”.
