Big 12 update: Everyone but Oklahoma State shows life in conference play

Saturday proved that any Big 12 team can beat any other on any given day. Except the state of Oklahoma.

The Cowboys remain the only Big 12 team without a conference win at 0-6 in league play following a 42-21 loss to Arizona State. Meanwhile, as expected in Stillwater, there was pandemonium in the rest of the Big 12.

Here’s what happened this weekend for the rest of the Big 12.

Texas Tech 23, No. 11 Iowa State 22

The Red Raiders pulled off the Big 12’s biggest upset of the weekend, handing Iowa State its first loss of the season. Tahj Brooks scored a five-yard touchdown with just 20 seconds left to give Tech the lead before the Red Raiders pinned ISU to secure the upset.

The upset opened up the race to Arlington even further, putting the Cyclones on the back burner while also keeping Tech’s hopes alive at 6-3. BYU, which was off this week, is the last undefeated team left in the Big 12.

Houston 24, No. 17 Kansas State 19

Tech wasn’t the only team to be upset on Saturday. Houston upset Kansas State again. The Cougars entered the fourth quarter trailing 19-10 before scoring a pair of unanswered TDs. The dagger was Zeon Chriss’ 41-yard run with 2:31 to go, after which Houston picked off Avery Johnson on the next drive, stopping the Wildcats again at the Houston 39-yard line.

At 4-5, Houston could now reach a bowl after winning back-to-back games for the first time this season. K-State, meanwhile, will have to keep clawing to stay in the hunt for a Big 12 title at 7-2.

UCF 56, Arizona 12

Arizona’s first Big 12 season isn’t going well, and the Wildcats also got the experience of visiting Orlando during UCF’s Space Game. The Knights totaled 602 yards in the win, ending a five-game losing streak for UCF (4-5). Arizona has now lost five straight and still has just one Big 12 win over Utah on September 28, the week after the Utes defeated OSU.

Baylor 37, TCU 34

There was no #Big12AfterDark this weekend, so Baylor and TCU wrapped things up with a close one in Waco. With the game tied, Isaiah Hankins made a 33-yard field goal as time expired, giving the Bears (5-4) their third straight victory. TCU, also at 5-4, will host OSU on Saturday after winning two of its last three.
