Big changes for the weather in Alabama later this week

The weather in Alabama will be something of a roller coaster this week, with major changes by the end of the week.

The most important things to watch out for, according to the National Weather Service:

* Confidence is increasing as Thanksgiving Day is a rainy day for parts of the state.

* There is a chance of some stronger storms on Thursday, but confidence about the possibility of severe weather waned from Sunday.

* An Arctic blast could arrive Friday, with much colder temperatures expected over the holiday weekend.

The weather service predicts temperatures will rise today and Monday. Today’s highs will be in the 60s and 70s statewide:

A front will move through Monday through Tuesday, bringing the chance of some rain to parts of the state, and southerly winds will bring back unseasonably warm temperatures.

The weather service expects rain chances to decrease as you move into the southeastern part of the state.

Tuesday will bring cooler temperatures to most of the state after the front passes. However, South Alabama will remain warm:

Tuesday night through Wednesday morning will be on the cold side, with lows reaching the 30s again in some areas. Here are the lows from Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. South Alabama won’t feel those colder temperatures, though:

It will warm up a bit on Wednesday as the next weather system takes shape, the weather service said.

Big questions still remain about what could happen on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day.

A strong cold front is expected to move across the state, according to the weather service. The big question will be whether conditions can develop for potentially stronger storms along and ahead of the front.

As of Sunday, there is no severe weather in NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center’s forecast for Thursday:

Forecasters will be watching closely to see if warm air can move far enough north in Alabama to potentially produce storms. That was under discussion from Sunday, but will become clearer in the coming days.

The weather service said there is no question that much of the state will see intermittent rain on Thanksgiving Day.

Showers may develop as early as Wednesday night and could continue all day Thursday (Thursday’s rain chances are shown at the top of this post).

Highs on Thursday could range from the 50s in north Alabama to the 70s in south Alabama:
