Former President Bill Clinton had to gently remind a Georgia McDonald’s employee who he was during an encounter that went viral on social media.

The woman working the counter immediately flashes a wide grin of vague recognition, but it’s clear she’s not quite sure which wizened elder statesman is standing before her.

After a few seconds she takes a guess and asks, “Are you Joe?” – a clear reference to President Biden, 81.

The sound is soft, but the former president, 78, appears to say, “I’m Bill.”

At this the McDonald’s employee is clearly more excited; she exclaims, “Bill!?” – and quickly walks around the counter to hug him.

Her colleagues laugh and clap while the desk clerk cackles with delight. Clinton smiles broadly as employees from the back of the restaurant walk forward to capture the moment on their cellphones, shooting each other disbelieving looks.

Clinton entered the restaurant after the Harris campaign brought him out just three weeks before Election Day, as polls show her support from the black community lagging far behind previous Democratic candidates.

Trump is polling 15% among black voters this year – compared to just 7% in 2016.

Georgia, with its sixteen electoral votes, is positioned as an important swing state where both parties are aggressively vying for victory.

The photo op marked a homecoming of sorts for the now slender ex-commander in chief. Although he has been vegan for more than a decade, Bubba’s love of cheeseburgers, especially McDonald’s, was well known during his presidency.

A famous photo from the 1990s shows Clinton – drenched in sweat from jogging – stopping by Mickey D’s for a snack, flanked by the Secret Service.
