With the addition of Cooper – the new top wide receiver in Buffalo – there was no need for Valdes-Scantling’s services. So his Bills tenure ends after less than a year. He signed a one-year contract with the Bills in May.

The Bills’ wide receiver room now consists of Cooper, Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins. Cooper, Shakir and Coleman are listed as the starters, with Cooper and Shakir likely to get the majority of the targets from quarterback Josh Allen. The team also has tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox.

Valdes-Scantling is now looking for a new team for the fourth time in his career. The 30-year-old was initially selected in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. Valdes-Scantling had 123 receptions for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns during his four seasons with the Packers.

In March 2022, Valdes-Scantling signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. He would spend two seasons in Kansas City, where he hauled in 63 receptions for 1,002 yards and three touchdowns. He won two Super Bowls in Kansas City.

After a brief stint with the Bills, Valdes-Scantling will now look for his next home.

As for the Bills, they should feel much better with their receiving room heading into Week 7. Cooper is a five-time Pro Bowler and should improve Buffalo’s passing game significantly. He already spoke about his excitement to join Buffalo in a conversation with Josina Anderson of The Athletic.

“(General manager) Andrew Berry called me and told me what was going on. As far as playing with Josh (Allen), I’ve always been a fan of his game. I’m sure I got to see it up close and personal will see and play with him I’m sure it’s going to be great,” said Cooper.

“I’ve been in this situation before, so that helps. I’m just excited to be able to start a new chapter and contribute.”
