Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills passing game will face their toughest test of the season on Monday night when they take on the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium, and they may have to do it without their most productive wide receiver, Khalil Shakir.

UPDATE: Shakir is not listed as inactive for the Jets game, so he will play.

Sean McDermott announced on Saturday that Shakir will be listed as questionable. He has shown slight improvement during the week, but he will most likely make a decision during the match.

If he can’t play, it will spell trouble for a team that has gotten very little production from the other four receivers who have played: Curtis Samuel, Keon Coleman, Mack Hollins and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

The Jets rank second in the NFL in passing yards allowed at 136.6 per game. Their sack rate of 11.4% is also second best, and their net yards per pass attempt allowed of 4.3 is No. 1, thanks in large part to perhaps being the best. outside cornerback duo in the NFL in Sauce Gardner and DJ Reed.

How did Khalil Shakir get injured?

Shakir injured his right ankle when he was tackled after making a catch against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4. He had his right ankle taped by athletic trainers and returned to the game, leading the Bills with four catches for 62 yards. Shakir was spotted after the match wearing a walking boot. Shakir did not play in week 5.

Who is Khalil Shakir’s backup?

Samuel has been limited in practice for most of the week as he continues to battle turf toe, an injury that has affected his performance all season. However, he is expected to play and he had a full training session on Saturday. The Bills also need Coleman, who scored a touchdown in Houston, to step into the void left by Shakir’s absence, and the same goes for Valdes-Scantling, who has just two catches on eight targets for 26 yards in his first five games with the Bills.
