The Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins resume their AFC East rivalry on Thursday Night Football after falling behind in the opening week of the 2024 NFL season.

Josh Allen — who is 11-2 in 13 career games against Miami — had four touchdowns as the Bills rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat the Arizona Cardinals 34-28. The Dolphins also trailed by 14 points in Week 1 but rallied in the final second for a 20-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

More than eight months ago, the Bills went to Hard Rock Stadium and defeated the Dolphins in what was essentially an AFC East title game. That Week 18 matchup sent the Bills home as the AFC’s No. 2 playoff seed and the Dolphins were a wild-card team, forced to play the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs the following week in frigid Arrowhead Stadium, losing one of the coldest playoff games in NFL history. A week later, the Bills’ season also ended at the hands of the Chiefs.

Both teams start this season with play-off ambitions, with an early-season lead in the division at stake on Thursday night.

Here are USA TODAY Sports’ expert picks for the game:

Thursday night marks the beginning of the process for the Miami Dolphins to end the NFL’s longest playoff winless streak.

The Bills are a nightmare for the Dolphins. This AFC East rivalry has been one-sided for the past five years. A win on “Thursday Night Football” would give the Dolphins a leg up in the race for a division title. — Chris Bumbaca
