Bo Nix passes John Elway and Drew Lock for most career wins by a starting quarterback

Bo Nix had a career game. He posted career highs in yards, completion percentage and touchdowns, but he also set a new Denver Broncos record. He passed John Elway and Drew Lock on the Broncos rookie quarterback wins list. Nix was tied with Elway and Lock with four wins, but now he has the team record with five and will look to distance himself from the more-win field for the rest of the season.

Nix was asked about this after the Broncos defeated the Saints last week on Thursday Night Football, and he told reporters, “It means a lot.”

β€œIt means a lot. You’re talking about one of the greats who ever did this at our organization. It means a lot. You are in good company. I’m not done yet. We still have a lot to look forward to, so I certainly don’t want to stop there. We are going to keep getting better as a team. I’m going to continue to grow and learn as a player. Hopefully we will continue to achieve victories in this way.”

This is one of the team records Nix needs to break this season and that’s exactly what he did today. The fact that the rookie quarterback record for wins is just four shows how much trouble the Broncos have had with their rookie quarterbacks since Elway. That said, that record now belongs to Nix and he should continue to break his own record several more times this season.

The Broncos rookie touchdown record is held by Marlin Briscoe, who threw 14 touchdowns for the team in 1968. Nix currently has 8 passing touchdowns and is on pace to surpass Briscoe this season. If you include his rushing touchdowns, the Broncos rookie has a total of 11 touchdowns on the year.

If things remain as they are, Nix will hold all the Broncos rookie records at quarterback and hopefully lead the Broncos back to the postseason.
