LOS ANGELES – This week, the “bomb cyclone” is bringing over a foot of rain, along with potential hurricane force winds, to the West Coast.

Fox 11 Chief Meteorologist Adam Krueger says the warning map has been “lit” from Northern California to Oregon and Washington.

It’s all coming from a storm system, or area of ​​low pressure, that will rapidly intensify this week. This creates a strong atmospheric river, resulting in a constant flow of rain and mountain snow.

The heaviest rain appears to be focused on Northern California, where widespread rainfall of at least 6 to 6 inches will occur, but some areas will likely exceed 10 inches.

Southern California is in a state of ‘hurry up and wait’ as we watch how this system evolves this week. The atmospheric river will be weaker by the time it shifts toward Southern California. For now, though, weekend rain seems like a pretty good possibility. I expect some scattered rain on Saturday, and perhaps a bit more scattered on Sunday.
