Julie Venables, wife of OU coach Brent Venablesfights cancer again. Venables announced the devastating news on his coaches show on Monday.

Julie was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2023. Venables announced in March 2024 that she was cancer-free. The cancer returned two months later in May. According to Venables, she had a tumor removed on November 11.

“In May she had some tests and had an elevated blood test and we had it checked out. And her cancer had returned,” Venables said on his show. “So we put together a really good game plan. Consulted with a lot of different people and went to New York City. They have a very good specialized hospital there and so she has been traveling back and forth in recent months to do her chemo treatments there. And last Monday she had surgery to remove her lymph nodes and a tumor.

“She’s doing great. Her spirit and her strength were nothing short of amazing. We have a great team and great confidence. It’s in God’s hands. A big part of the struggle was just wanting to fight and keep swinging, and that’s what she does.

Venables and Julie have been married since 1997 and have four children.
