BRITAIN must give Ukraine everything it needs to get the job done against Russia, a former defence chief has said.

Ben Wallace Yesterday he stressed that half measures will not suffice and that extending British support only risks prolonging the war in Europe.

But he defended the new government and rejected the Ukrainian president’s “characterisation” that “support for Britain has declined”.

Volodymyr Zelensky this week stepped up his campaign to ease restrictions on the use of Britain’s Storm Shadow missiles after conducting a raid on Russia’s Kursk region.

Speaking to Times RadioMr Wallace said: “One of the best ways to strengthen deterrence against Russia is to ensure that nothing is ever taken off the table.

“And if necessary, we will give Ukraine the means to get the job done, to win, to not be static, to not just have to have more frozen conflict, but to give Ukraine the means it needs to drive Russia out of parts of the country or, if possible, the entire country.

“Instead of cutting those permits or supplies.”

President Zelensky recently warned in a speech that the invasion of Kursk was only the beginning of his plan to destroy Putin’s war machine, calling for more weapons.

The Ukrainian leader praised his troops for the “excellent work” they had done in breaking through the Russian border, but said aid from the West should be deployed “faster”.

Zelensky said in a video on X tonight that his soldiers are “doing everything to hold the positions” they have captured behind enemy lines.

He added: “Our troops are doing excellent work in all directions.

“But when it comes to our partners’ deliveries, we need to pick up the pace.
