Bruins unveil commemorative jersey for Centennial Game vs. Montreal originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

The Boston Bruins are celebrating the 100th anniversary of their very first NHL game in style with a new jersey.

The team unveiled a special commemorative uniform on Thursday for the Dec. 1 game against the Montreal Canadiens. The B’s played their first game as a franchise against the Montreal Maroons on December 1, 1924, which the Bruins won 2-1 at Northeastern’s Matthews Arena.

The shirt has a similar design to the team’s in the 1980s, with a few adjustments.

“The jersey design is inspired by the 1980s, a pivotal era in Bruins history that embodies the team’s core values,” the Bruins wrote in a press release. “The uniform features gold sleeves and socks with a modern take on traditional stripes, paying tribute to Bruins alumni who previously represented the Spoked-B.

Additional details on the inside of the shirt include a special design on the collar and on the lower hemline. The collar displays the score of the club’s very first match, played at the Boston Arena on December 1, 1924 – Boston Bruins 2, Montreal Maroons 1. Embedded in the bottom seam are the team’s core values ​​– tradition, perseverance, passion and heart – that the club will carry with it into the future.”

“The Centennial Game will be a special moment for our organization and more importantly, for our fans, so the jersey design had to be appropriate for the occasion,” Bruins president Cam Neely said in a news release.

“There are so many elements for both fans and players to enjoy, but my favorite part of the shirt is on the bottom; When our players pull this shirt over their heads, they will see our core values: tradition, courage, passion and heart. These are the values ​​we have embodied for a century and will carry with us for the next generation, which begins on December 1.”

The Bruins have worn many different alternate jerseys in recent years, some of which were made for outdoor games such as the Winter Classic. It remains to be seen if this new Centennial Game jersey will become a regular in the rotation.
