Buccaneers WR was released with a leg injury

play

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin had to be carted off the field late in the Buccaneers’ 41-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Godwin took a shot from Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith with less than a minute to play in the “Monday Night Football” clash. ESPN refused to show a replay of the hit, and after returning from a brief commercial break, the broadcast showed Godwin on a cart with his left leg in an air throw.

The injury was a major blow to a Buccaneers team that also lost receiver Mike Evans to a hamstring injury earlier in the game.

After the game, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles told reporters that Godwin has a dislocated ankle, which will keep the receiver out indefinitely.

Chris Godwin injury update

Godwin appeared to suffer a lower leg injury during the Buccaneers’ 41-31 loss on “Monday Night Football.” There was less than a minute to play when the receiver went down and required assistance from medical personnel.

ESPN did not show a replay of Smith’s hit on Godwin, and the exact nature of the injury was initially unknown. Godwin had to be carted off the field and had his left leg caught in an air throw.

After the game, Bowles told reporters that Godwin dislocated his ankle and “it doesn’t look good.” The status of the recipient in the future is unclear.

Who is Chris Godwin’s backup on the Buccaneers depth chart?

Godwin and Evans both went down with lower-body injuries during “Monday Night Football” in Week 7.

The third receiver on Tampa Bay’s depth chart is rookie Jalen McMillan, and behind him are Trey Palmer and Sterling Shepard.

Rakim Jarrett and Kameron Johnson are both on injured reserve, meaning McMillan, Palmer and Shepard are the only healthy receivers the Buccaneers have ahead of a Week 8 divisional matchup with the Atlanta Falcons.

Chris Godwin Stats

Godwin had 50 catches for 576 receiving yards and five touchdown catches in 2024 prior to his injury. Catch total leads the NFL, yards total ranks second behind Ja’Marr Chase and touchdown total ranks third.

The receiver had seven catches for 65 yards on “Monday Night Football” before suffering a dislocated ankle late in the fourth quarter.
