Buffalo Bills trade for WR Amari Cooper in deal with Cleveland Browns

The Buffalo Bills have acquired wide receiver Amari Cooper from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a third-round pick, the teams announced Tuesday.

The Browns will also get a seventh-round pick in 2026, while the Bills will also get a sixth-round pick in addition to Cooper in 2025.

In six games so far this season, Cooper has 24 catches for 250 yards and two touchdowns. Cooper’s average of 10.4 yards per catch is the lowest of his career.

Buffalo is 4-2 and in first place in the AFC East, but the passing attack has taken a step back from last year. Quarterback Josh Allen is averaging just 193.3 yards passing per game, while he averaged 253.3 yards passing a season ago.

After trading receiver Stefon Diggs this offseason, the Bills have tried to replace his production overall. They have three pass catchers with over 200 yards, but none are on pace for 1,000 yards for the season. Two of Buffalo’s top four players in receiving yards are a tight end and a running back.

The Browns are 1-5 and have lost four straight games. Their quarterback, Deshaun Watson, ranks last among all qualifying players in quarterback rating.

Cooper, 30, is a five-time Pro Bowl selection, most recently as last season. In 2023, he set a career high in receiving with 1,250 yards.

Cooper was drafted in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the then-Oakland Raiders before being traded to the Dallas Cowboys midway through the 2018 season. In 146 career games, Cooper has 9,736 yards and 62 touchdowns.

After beating the New York Jets on Monday, the Bills will play the Tennessee Titans on October 20.
