Buffalo records victory; Tua Tagovailoa out with concussion

The Buffalo Bills won their Thursday night game against the Miami Dolphins 31-10. Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion in the third quarter.

Tagovailoa was trying to convert a fourth down with Miami trailing by 21 when he collided head-on with Bills safety Damar Hamlin. Tagovailoa’s teammates immediately called for trainers as he lay on the ground. He walked away under his own power and was eliminated.

Things weren’t going well for the Dolphins before they got injured.

Buffalo jumped out to a 31-10 lead, thanks in large part to three interceptions by Tagovailoa. Running back James Cook scored three touchdowns for the Bills — two on the ground and one through the air. Quarterback Josh Allen had a simple night, completing 13 of 19 passes for 139 yards. Cook ran for 78 yards on 11 carries.

Attention will now turn to Tagovailoa, who has a history of concussions. He suffered two during the Dolphins’ 2022 season and was suspected of having suffered another before both seasons — a controversy that led to the NFL and NFL Players Association revising the league’s concussion protocol midseason.

With the win, the Bills improved their record to 2-0 and will play the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3.

Miami lost 1-1 and will play Seattle on September 22.
