The Bundesliga returns to action after the international break with the Bavarian derby, as leaders Bayern Munich host mid-table Augsburg on Friday.

Bayern currently hold a five-point lead over second-place RB Leipzig in the title race, but went into halftime on the back of an unconvincing 1-0 win over struggling St. Pauli.

Augsburg have struggled for consistency at the start of the season, but their goalless draw against Hoffenheim last time out means they have been defeated just once in their last six games in all competitions.

Bayern Munich hosts Augsburg on Friday, November 22 at the Allianz Arena. The kick-off is scheduled 8:30 PM CET local time in Germany, making it a 2:30 PM ET or 11:30 AM PT start in the US, a 7:30 PM GMT start in Britain and a 6:30am AEDT kick-off in Australia early Saturday morning.

How to watch the Bundesliga from anywhere with a VPN

If you find that you can’t watch Bundesliga matches locally, you may need another way to watch the matches. That’s where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to prevent your ISP from throttling your speed on game day by encrypting your traffic, and it’s also a good idea if you’re traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network and give you an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN you can virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to access the game. Most VPNs, like our Editors’ Choice, ExpressVPN, make it very easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in every country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you’re streaming. You’ll want to make sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: even if VPNs are legal, the streaming service can terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing properly applied blackout restrictions.

ExpressVPN is currently our top VPN pick for people who want a reliable and secure VPN, and it works across devices. It normally costs $13 per month, but if you sign up for a $100 annual subscription you get three months free and save 49%. That’s the equivalent of $6.67 per month with code SPECIAL OFFERwhich should be applied automatically.

Please note that ExpressVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Quick tips for streaming the Bundesliga with a VPN

  • With four variables at play (your ISP, browser, video streaming provider, and VPN), your experiences and success streaming Bundesliga matches may vary.
  • If you don’t see the location you want as the default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “search for city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble downloading the game after turning on your VPN and setting it to the correct viewing area, you can try two things to quickly resolve this. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is one in the correct display area. If not, you may need to change the physical address registered to your account. Second, some smart TVs (like Roku) don’t have VPN apps that you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll need to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you use (like your phone) so that every device on the Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases, after you install a cable network’s sports app, smart TV services will ask you to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your registered email address for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help as both devices appear to be in the right location.
  • And don’t forget that browsers can often give away location despite using a VPN, so make sure you’re using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave.
