Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever came up short at home to the two-time reigning WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces on Wednesday, losing 86-75.

Aces star A’ja Wilson has been a model of consistency all year, with a third MVP Award already in the bag. She had her fourth double-double (27 points and 12 rebounds) in five games.

Alysha Clark and Tiffany Hayes played key roles off the bench for Vegas, combining for 26 points.

Kelsey Mitchell finished as the Fever’s top scorer (24 points).

Clark, who has turned a corner in the second half of the season, has been back to her old self, scoring 16 points but was inefficient, shooting 6 of 22 from the field and making just one of her 10 three-pointers.

The criticism of the 2024 No. 1 overall pick has largely died down thanks to her improvement on the court, but tonight the reaction on social media was rather unforgivable.

Caitlin Clark had a terrible game. She has to get better and I say that as a fan. When the 3 is not falling, you have to find other ways to score and more importantly be efficient. #Fever

Las Vegas certainly flexed its defensive muscle, holding Indiana to 39.7 percent shooting from the floor and forcing 14 turnovers. It was an impressive performance against what has become one of the league’s best offenses.

The Fever won’t have to wait long to avenge their defeat. On Friday night they will once again host the Aces.

With the regular season quickly coming to a close, Indiana is running out of time to improve its playoff position, having already secured a playoff spot. With four games left, it has no room for error to catch the Seattle Storm and move up to fifth place.
