Cameras caught Baker Mayfield popping a nicotine bag on the sideline

Baker Mayfield and Tampa Bay had a tough night on Monday.

The Bucs lost 41-31 to Baltimore, with the defense giving up 508 yards, and both of Tampa’s star wide receivers, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, went down with what appear to be serious injuries.

Mayfield threw two interceptions to contribute to the loss, and apparently turned to a popular vice to calm the nerves.

With the Bucs trailing 17-10 early in the third quarter, ESPN cameras caught Mayfield opening a can of ZYN nicotine pouches and putting one in his mouth.

Baltimore got the ball to start the second half.

ZYNs, which have grown in popularity since they hit the market in 2014, are designed as an alternative to traditional smokeless tobacco.

They are controversial to some due to the amounts of nicotine they contain, with health experts pointing to their addictive quality, gateway drug potential and unknown long-term effects.

Mayfield may need some help moving forward without his top two receivers, but he’s had a strong season thus far, completing 70% of his passes for 1,859 yards, 18 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

Tampa Bay (4-3) hosts Atlanta on Sunday. The Bucs lost to the Falcons 36-30 on October 3.
