Celine Dion’s comeback at the Olympic Games in Paris is under fire; several reports claim it was “pre-recorded and fake.”

Celine Dion hit

The allegations surfaced on October 11, just a day after Celine, 56, released a single from her Olympic performance, Hymne à l’amour – Live from the Olympic Games Paris 2024, on streaming platforms. The song was made famous by French singer Édith Piaf.

According to NYpost, daily newspaper Libération made this claim in an article titled: “Did Celine Dion lip-sync during the Olympic opening ceremony?”

The outlet quoted multiple music industry professionals as claiming that her performance was “without a doubt” pre-recorded.

“What we heard on TV was a corrected reproduction,” composer and performer Etienne Guéreau claimed to Libération.

“It was 100% playable, you can hear it from the first notes,” claimed one sound engineer, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Mixed reactions from fans

The report has angered fans of the My Heart Will Go On singer. “Don’t you have more important information to repeat?” asked a supporter on X, formerly known as Twitter. “What is the need to tarnish, to denigrate? We don’t care! You cannot take away the emotion we felt at that moment. Regardless, Celine Dion’s vocal performance is admirable,” wrote another.

“WE DON’T CARE ABOUT YOUR CONTROVERSIES! Congratulations to Celine Dion for her achievement!” someone else wrote.

Others said if the Grammy winner’s performance turned out to be pre-recorded, they wouldn’t care. “Who cares, she was amazing anyway,” one fan commented.

Another referenced Celine’s recent health issues, writing: ‘She’s sick. Get her lip synced”. The singer has not yet responded to the claims.

About the performance

In July, singer Celine Dion made a powerful return to the stage at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris amid her struggle with stiff person syndrome. After a three-year hiatus due to serious health problems, she performed at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, leaving the audience speechless.

Before the performance, Celine topped the Eiffel Tour in Paris singing Edith Piaf’s Hymne A L’Amour. Her performance was the final act of the opening ceremony. For her performance, she wore a beautiful high-neck dress covered in crystals, and the long sleeves were stitched with a cape and beaded tassels.

The singer was seen holding back tears during the performance. It was her first performance after leaving her Las Vegas residency in 2021 to focus on her health. Several reports suggested that the singer was paid as much as $2 million for her performance, but an Olympic Games representative said: “Contrary to some media reports, performers at the Paris 2024 Games ceremonies will not receive any compensation for their actions”.
