Celtics add key Sam Hauser to injury report after season-opening win

The Celtics could have a shorter bench than usual for Thursday night’s game against the Wizards.

Boston added backup wing Sam Hauser to its injury report on Wednesday, listing him as doubtful for the Washington game with lower back pain.

Hauser, who emerged as one of the NBA’s best 3-point shooters last season, played 24 minutes in the New York Knicks’ season opener Tuesday night at TD Garden. The 26-year-old went 4-for-10 from the field and 2-for-7 from three, finishing with 10 points, five rebounds and one assist in the 132-109 win.

Hauser is a durable backup who has played in all but five games for the Celtics since the start of the 2022-23 season. If he can’t compete against Washington, second-year pro Jordan Walsh would likely take on a more prominent role in head coach Joe Mazzulla’s rotation.
