Center Notes: Bulls Defensive Woes, Giddey, Turner, Ivey

The Bulls Take on the Pistons tonight and they will look to bounce back from two woeful defensive performances. After giving up 144 points to Cleveland on Friday, they gave up 143 in a 36-point loss to Houston.

“It’s just a competitive thing; you have to compete at a higher level,” guard Coby White said Kyle Williams of the Chicago Sun Times. “We have to be more physical. We must take a stand; Giving up 140-plus in back-to-back games is unacceptable. It’s shameful, it’s a disservice to the organization, a disservice to the fan base.”

Chicago dropped to 5-9 with the loss.

‘We must be much stronger collectively’ wing Zach LaVine said. “We just can’t let it snowball like it did (Sunday). We play well all year round and are competitive. (Sunday) was the opposite of that.”

We have more from the Central Division:

  • One of the defensive issues for the Bulls is that opponents are focusing on offseason acquisitions Josh Giddey. The team’s defensive rating was significantly worse with Giddey on the floor, Williams noted. “We have to get better at being able to do multiple things and we have to help him find solutions,” coach Billy Donovan said. “And the other part is also that he has to execute. We have to be able to do the things we are in. We need to help him where he has multiple things he can do, and the ability to move in and out of dead balls or timeouts to change coverage. ”
  • Pacers big man Myles Turnera free agent after the season, has been disappointed with his approach in recent days, Alex Golden tweets. He scored 34 points and nine rebounds in a win over Miami on Sunday after two subpar games. “Publicly, I don’t like my attitude these past few days,” he said. “You have to be an energy giver and take responsibility, but I feel like I’ve been a kind of energy sucker, a bit wrapped up in my own feelings… those kinds of things are just negative. Obviously it was a great game, just growing as a leader, growing as a man. You can’t spread that stuff out into the universe, but I hold myself accountable for that. Turner had to sit out the second game of a back-to-back on Monday due to calf soreness.
  • Jaden Iveywho will be eligible for a rookie scale extension next summer, had a season high with 28 points and eight assists in a win over Washington on Sunday. Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff has been impressed with Ivey’s play this season. ‘He can hurt you in so many different ways’ said Bickerstaff. “He can get to the basket at will. He does a great job of finding his teammates when people want to entrust two bodies to him. And then he picks up most of the belongings. So he also uses that head of snake mentality for our defense.”
