2024 Trick-or-treat safety tips from IMPD this Halloween

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department provided several safety tips for trick-or-treating on Halloween. Here are some things parents and children should consider before heading out:

Check the weather and dress accordingly before heading out.
An adult must be present for young children and children with special needs.
Consider light-colored clothing or reflective tape for costumes, and adjust costume length to avoid tripping.
With all face masks, visibility is the top priority. Do not wear masks in companies.
Avoid props such as toy guns, which can look real.
If possible, go outside during the day or carry a flashlight if you’re out after dark
Only give and accept packaged treats
Examine the candy catch before consuming it. Report suspicious matters immediately to the police. Call IMPD at 317-327-3811. Call 911 if there is any injury.
