The likely highlight of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League matches is a rematch of the 2023/24 final, with defending champions Real Madrid hosting Borussia Dortmund at the Bernabéu.

Just four months after Dortmund’s painful 2-0 defeat to the Spanish giants at Wembley Stadium, the two sides meet again, with the German side likely to take encouragement from their opponents’ last UCL match.

While Dortmund defeated Celtic 7-1 at home on Matchday 2, Real Madrid crashed out after a shock 1-0 defeat to French team Lille. That result ended Los Blancos’ incredible run of 36 unbeaten league matches. Dortmund are in indifferent form, but with the home side likely to have just one eye on their potentially crucial El Clásico clash with La Liga title rivals Barcelona on Saturday, there is room for revenge for the Germans.

Real Madrid will take on Borussia Dortmund at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on Tuesday, October 21, with kick-off scheduled 9 pm CEST local time in Spain, making it a 8pm BST begin in Great Britain, a 3:00 PM ET or 12:00 PM PT kick-off in the US and Canada, and a 6am AEDT start in Australia on Wednesday morning.

Below we outline the best live TV streaming services you can use to watch the match as it happens, wherever you are in the world.

How to watch every UEFA Champions League 2024/25 match online from anywhere using a VPN

If you find that you cannot watch the UCL matches locally, you may need another way to watch the matches. That’s where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to prevent your ISP from throttling your speed on game day by encrypting your traffic, and it’s also a good idea if you’re traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN you can virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to access the game. Most VPNs, like our Editors’ Choice, ExpressVPN, make it very easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in every country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you’re streaming. You’ll want to make sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: even if VPNs are legal, the streaming service can terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing properly applied blackout restrictions.

ExpressVPN is currently our top VPN pick for people who want a reliable and secure VPN, and it works across devices. It normally costs $13 per month, but if you sign up for a $100 annual subscription you get three months free and save 49%. That’s the equivalent of $6.67 per month with code SPECIAL OFFERwhich should be applied automatically.

Please note that ExpressVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Quick tips for streaming UEFA Champions League matches using a VPN

  • With four variables at play (your ISP, browser, video streaming provider, and VPN), your experience and success streaming Champions League matches may vary.
  • If you don’t see the location you want as the default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “search for city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble downloading the game after turning on your VPN and setting it to the correct viewing area, there are two quick things you can try to fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is one in the correct display area. If not, you may need to change the physical address registered to your account. Second, some smart TVs (like Roku) don’t have VPN apps that you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll need to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you use (like your phone) so that every device on the Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases, with Smart TV services, after you install a cable network’s sports app, you may be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your registered email address for your Smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help as both devices appear to be in the right location.
  • Keep in mind that browsers can often reveal a location despite using a VPN, so make sure you’re using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave.
