Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert left Sunday’s game after aggravating an ankle injury. Herbert left the game in the third quarter after being tackled by Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Elandon Roberts.

Although the score was tied at 10-10 when Herbert left, the Steelers scored a field goal and a touchdown on the first two drives of the fourth quarter to secure the 20-10 victory. Pittsburgh is now 3-0 and off to a strong start to the season.

Roberts’ sack on Herbert appeared to twist a high ankle sprain Herbert suffered last week against the Carolina Panthers. Herbert was initially considered questionable heading into Sunday, but was active prior to the game.

Herbert was taken to the medical tent for further evaluation. During the third quarter break, the Chargers announced that Herbert was officially questionable to return.

Herbert was replaced by backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke, who failed to make much progress for the Chargers.

Before the injury, Herbert had completed 12 of 18 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown, putting the Chargers in a 10-10 tie with the Steelers.

Pittsburgh quarterback Justin Fields threw for 245 yards, with two touchdowns — one rushing, one throwing. After scoring just one touchdown in the first two games, the Steelers offense found some traction, though Fields still had a tough interception in the third quarter.
