ChatGPT is currently offline; Siri integration in iOS 18.2 affected

OpenAI’s popular AI chatbot ChatGPT is currently offline, making the platform inaccessible to users around the world on Friday evening. As a result, the outage also affected Siri integration in the iOS 18.2 beta.

According to OpenAI, the company has already identified the cause of the problem and is currently working on a fix. While OpenAI says it will restore ChatGPT functionality “as soon as possible,” there is no estimate of when the service will be back online.

Many users are seeing random error messages when trying to use ChatGPT currently.

With the iOS 18.2 beta, which introduces new Apple Intelligence features, Apple has finally enabled the promised Siri integration with ChatGPT. This feature allows users to interact with the OpenAI chatbot directly from the Siri interface. However, the outage also breaks this interaction for many iPhone, iPad, and Mac users running the latest beta software.

It’s worth noting that iOS users can interact with GPT via Siri for free without even needing an OpenAI account. However, Apple also lets users subscribe to ChatGPT Plus and link their account to Siri directly from iOS settings so they can take advantage of paid features.
