Cher detailed 2-pound weight gain when ‘miserable’ in new book

Cher revealed a 2-pound weight gain at age 28 when she was miserable in new memoir

Cher didn’t hesitate to share details about her personal life in her recently released book Cher: The Memoir – Part One.

The 78-year-old singer provided details about her weight and its slight fluctuations more than once during the course of the book. In one passage, Cher describes her decision to start CBS’s first episode in 1975 Cher with an honest conversation with the audience.

“My palms were sweaty, I stood in the spotlight and started my monologue by saying people might have noticed I was gone for a while, but I was so excited to be back,” she recalled in the book.

Cher told the crowd, “I’m twenty-eight years old, five feet tall, have black hair and brown eyes, weigh one hundred and four pounds when I’m happy, and one hundred and eight when I’m miserable.” I am now one hundred and six and my fate is in your hands.’

Cher was married to Bono from 1969 to 1975. (The former couple “told everyone in October 1964 that we were legally married,” which was not true.)

Although they had the “perfect marriage” in the public eye, there were problems at home between Cher and Bono. At one point in the book, Cher remembered her old best friend Paulette Howell thinking she had the “perfect marriage.” (Cher and Bono share son Chaz, born in March 1969. Bono died in 1998 at age 62 after a skiing accident.)

“She had no idea of ​​the tension building up inside me. To be honest, I found it hard to eat and sleep,” Cher wrote. “The weight fell off me. For Paulette’s birthday she had chicken cordon bleu, which I love. I remember trying to find myself eating it, but I couldn’t take a bite. That scared me.”

Cher’s weight also came into play when she described her experiences working on several TV shows with Bono. At one point during the beginning of her TV fame, the singer revealed that at age 25 she was a size six and weighed just 180 pounds.

“I finally got some definition, especially when we started doing dance routines for our production numbers,” she said. “Plus, my body type had finally come into fashion.”
