“CBum” made his announcement after winning his sixth Classic Physique Olympia.

No king reigns forever. On the evening of October 12, 2024Social media superstar and now six-time winner of Classic Physique Olympia Chris Bumstead announced his retirement from competitive bodybuilding.

  • “This will be my last time on this stage,” Bumstead, 29, said shortly after the finals of the 2024 Classic Physique Olympia in Las Vegas, NV.

Bumstead’s illustrious career began in 2017. Since then, “CBum” has become one of the most recognizable fitness celebrities in the world and has more wins at the Classic Physique “O” than any other athlete in the division’s history.

Chris Bumstead on retirement: “I hope I set the standard”

Bumstead’s retirement from Classic Physique came as no surprise. Fans have long suspected that Bumstead, who is almost 30, would hang up his lifting belt after claiming another victory in the sport’s most prestigious competition.

  • In the past, Bumstead indicated that he would retire from bodybuilding after his thirtieth birthday. In February 2025 he will score the big 3-0.

Additionally, Bumstead has filled his cup with business ventures and extended family in recent years.

In addition to partial ownership of the Florida-based RAW Athletic Club, gym clothing brand Gymshark, and supplement and meal prep lines, Bumstead and partner Courtney King welcomed their daughter Bradley in 2023. He also suffers from Berger’s disease, which can gradually damage the kidneys.

  • “I have sacrificed a lot over the years, and it has paid off,” Bumstead said on stage. “I have been so grateful, and now it is time to step down.”

The Classic Physique Olympia was Bumstead’s only competitive appearance since he first won in 2018. The fast-growing Classic Physique division, a crowd favorite, owes much of its rise to Bumstead’s presence in the bodybuilding industry.

The champion did not explicitly state his immediate plans after the 2024 Olympia concluded. One thing is certain: next year it will be a whole new game.
