Christian McCaffrey, Jauan Jennings and others return to practice after Bye Week

The San Francisco 49ers are back from Bye Week and welcomed several players back from injuries during their Week 10 bonus workout Monday morning. Running back Christian McCaffrey (Achilles tendonitis) and offensive lineman Jon Feliciano (knee), both on the injured reserve list, had their practice windows open while wide receiver Jauan Jennings (hip) and kicker Jake Moody (right ankle) were reintroduced after extended periods away.

Although the portion of the practice open to the media was short, McCaffrey was seen running during warmups and high-fiving Jordan Mason on his way to the team meeting. The reigning AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year has yet to play in 2024 due to bilateral Achilles tendonitis, but his recent rise is a step in the right direction.

Before breaking for the Bye, head coach Kyle Shanahan said McCaffrey would spend the week simulating practices in Santa Clara, and if there were no setbacks, he would rejoin the team in time for the bonus workout. As you might expect, McCaffrey’s teammates loved training with him again.

“It’s such a great feeling to see that 2-3 out there, doing an extended warm-up and the million high knees he does before practice,” left tackle Trent Williams said. “It gave me energy. It was a very short training.” So you know, we only had one team period, but it gave me a lot of energy. I’m super happy that it was a turning point and he can get back out there and do what he loves.”

San Francisco has 21 days to activate McCaffrey to the 53-man roster.
