Cincinnati Bengals Joe Burrow notes Bengals ‘really need’ to beat Giants, rush

CINCINNATI— Joe Burrow and the Bengals needed a win on Sunday Night Football and got it in a different way than he (or the team) has been used to lately.

The defense gave up its fewest points of the season to beat New Yoirk 17-7 and Burrow leaned on a career-high 55 rushing yards to support a stagnant passing game. Still, he did enough with his arms and legs to post his best ESPN QBR grade of the young season (87.7 overall).

“We really needed it,” Burrow said of the win. “I don’t want to say we would have been out if we had lost. But we would have been scratching and scratching the rest of the year. That’s still true, but it was good to win. Great.” to see our defense improve like this. They’ve had a bit of a tough time the last few weeks, but they played great today.”

Burrow ran the ball four times on Sunday, but none was more important than the longest TD by a quarterback in team history: a 47-yard run down the left sideline on Cincinnati’s opening drive.

“I forgot,” Burrow joked. “Yeah, I just saw an opening, saw it was people coverage, and was able to squeak through that and find the end zone. … I was able to stretch out today and make some plays with my legs when we needed to because I Didn’t play to my level in every other way, but we found a way to win.”

Cincinnati advances to a road game with the Browns next Sunday.
