Former Clemson wide receiver Diondre Overton has died at the age of 26, Clemson confirmed in a news release Saturday. The Greensboro, North Carolina native played four seasons for the Tigers and helped Clemson to two national titles.

Overton played for the Memphis Showboats of the United Football League.

The 6-foot-1 receiver signed with Clemson before the 2016 season after being tabbed as a four-star recruit.

He contributed immediately as a freshman, appearing in eight games and catching two passes for 48 yards and a touchdown. Clemson defeated Alabama in the national title game that season.

In 2017, Diondre Overton helped Clemson return to the College Football Playoff, catching 14 passes for 178 yards and playing in all 14 games.

Clemson won its second national title in 2018 under Dabo Swinney and Overton had his best year to date that season with 14 catches for 199 yards and three touchdowns.

In his final year at Clemson, he caught 22 passes for 352 yards and three touchdowns. Overton appeared in all 15 games that season, making three starts and helping the Tigers reach the national title game.

Several former Clemson players took to social media after receiving news of Overton’s death, including former Tigers wideout Amari Rodgers.

“Life ain’t fair man!!! Please tell the ones you love that you love them because you never know. Long live Dre,” Rodgers posted.
