Colin Jost injured while covering 2024 Olympic Games in Tahiti

Colin Jost’s job as a sports reporter for the 2024 Olympic Games isn’t going quite as planned.

The Saturday Night Live writer and star was tapped by NBC to cover the surfing portion of the Olympics in Teahupo’o, Tahiti — nearly 10,000 miles away from the main site of this year’s games in Paris. Working in paradise has its drawbacks, however. On Friday, the comedian shared a photo of his bloodied foot on Instagram. “This might ruin my WikiFeet score, but I just arrived in Tahiti for the surfing Olympics and the reef was thrilled to greet me,” he joked in the caption.

On Monday, he shared an update on his injuries, showing a cut of his toes that were individually bandaged. He joked in the caption, “You know you’re doing great when you’ve been to the Olympic medical tent more times than any other athlete.”

Speaking to Mike Tirico (who covered the Paris Games) on Sunday, the actor revealed that he was injured while surfing. “I think I was doing pretty well until the first wave and then I was on the coral reef,” he said. Because he wasn’t wearing coral-safe shoes, “he got a little bit of a scrape.” However, the mishap didn’t stop Jost from continuing his coverage of the surfing competitions while standing barefoot on the beach.

Jost’s surfing was captured in a clip from the Olympics, in which he was seen riding waves with American surfers Carissa Moore and John John Florence. “There’s no way to sugarcoat it: I was better than them,” Jost said, as footage showed him falling face first into the water. When Jost asked what the Olympic score would be for riding the same waves as the Olympians, Moore replied, “I think he gets extra points for being so hard.”
