Columbus high school wrestling champion Adrian Bice was in mourning after a tragic death

Adrian Bice, a Columbus High School athlete who was a Nebraska state wrestling champion his senior year, has died. He was 20.

Bice’s death occurred on Saturday, November 16, 2024, his father Eric Bice announced. His cause of death was su*c*de, his father revealed.

“Adriaan will be greatly missed. Our hearts are broken because he was unable to overcome his demons that he struggled with for a while. I love him so much!” Eric Bice said as he shared an obituary of his son from Gass Haney Funeral Home.

Adrian was born on July 13, 2004 to Eric and Lacey Bice (née Brown) of Omaha. He grew up in Columbus Nebraska with two siblings, Josalyn and Olivia.

He attended Columbus High School, where he excelled in wrestling. Adrian won the state wrestling championship in the 126-pound category his senior year. He previously reached the finals at 106 pounds as a freshman and was a semifinalist at 113 pounds his sophomore year.

News of his death stunned not only his family and friends, but the entire Nebraska wrestling community.

“I hope everyone in our wrestling family will keep their thoughts and prayers with the Bice family during this difficult time. We lost a great one! RIP Adriaan, you will be greatly missed. We have so many memories on and off the mat,” Columbus Wrestling said in a moving tribute.

Visitation for Adrian Bice is scheduled for Thursday, November 21 through Friday, November 2022 at Gass Haney. His memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the same location.
