Commanders’ Jayden Daniels starts Week 8 in rookie game against Bears’ Caleb Williams

Commanding quarterback Jayden Daniels will face the Chicago Bears in Week 8 in a battle for this year’s No. 1 and No. 2 picks, the team announced Sunday.

Daniels, 23, suffered a rib injury in the first quarter of last week’s 40-7 win over the Carolina Panthers when two defenders tackled Daniels at the end of a 46-yard run during Washington’s opener. He was supposed to finish the ride, but was ultimately eliminated and did not return. Marcus Mariota replaced Daniels and threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns.

Daniels, listed as questionable on the injury report, did not practice Wednesday or Thursday but participated partially in practice on Friday.

Daniels has been on a historic pace since starting with the Commanders. Through his first seven starts, Daniels has thrown for 1,410 yards, six touchdowns, two interceptions and rushed for four touchdowns, becoming the fastest rookie to post at least 1,000 passing yards and 300 rushing yards. He currently leads the NFL in completion percentage at 75.6 percent.

He is now set to play against the Chicago Bears and first overall pick Caleb Williams. This will mark the sixth time in NFL history that No. 1 and No. 2 quarterbacks will face each other in their rookie season.
