Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin said after the game that he was responsible for calling the play that essentially gave Washington a 38-33 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night.

With the Commanders leading 31-26 with just two minutes left in the fourth quarter, quarterback Jayden Daniels threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to McLaurin, extending the lead to 12 points and effectively putting the game out of reach.

McLaurin told reporters after the game that he had spoken with Daniels and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury during a timeout about calling a go route and giving him a chance to decide the game:

“During the timeout, I said, ‘Kliff, give me a route to the boundary for the game.’ I yelled it. And I went to Kliff and Jayden and said, ‘Throw me this ball for the game.’ For them to have that confidence in me, I think it’s one of the first times in my career where the game is on the line and I’ve been able to stand there and call that play and we executed it at a really high level.”
