Concord developer thanks support after sudden closure: ‘To all of you who reached out with love, you are the reason we make games’

The sudden closure of the recently released hero shooter Concord unsurprisingly prompted a wave of unhappy grave dancing from those who criticized the game for being too “woke” or “diverse,” rather than a game “for gamers,” whatever that means. But amid all the predictable sound and fury, there have also been expressions of support for the developers at Firewalk Studios and expressions of hope from fans that Concord will be back.

Concord was fully released on August 23, meaning it only lasted 11 days before Firewalk and Sony had enough. It’s hard to overstate what a bullet train disaster that represents: Amazon’s Crucible lasted for over a month before being defunded in 2020, while Valve’s CCG Artifact lasted nearly three years – admittedly with a minimal player base – before finally being axed. Even the infamous Anthem struggled for a few years before Electronic Arts threw in the towel.
