Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush has been benched and replaced by Trey Lance after struggling in Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Rush completed 13 of 23 passes for 45 yards and two fumbles for loss before being replaced by the fourth-year quarterback.

Lance came on in place of the 30-year-old Rush early in the fourth quarter and completed 4 of 6 passes for 21 yards and one interception.

The quarterback change comes after ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Dak Prescott planned to undergo season-ending surgery to repair a partially torn hamstring, pending the advice of a final specialist.

Rush took over at quarterback during the Cowboys’ Week 9 27–21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, where he completed 13 of 25 passes for 115 yards, one touchdown and one fumble.

New reports from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport suggest Prescott is “hoping to avoid surgery.”

“It is my understanding that I reported yesterday with Tom Pelissero that the likely option for Dak Prescott is surgery and this would obviously knock him out for the season,” Rapoport said.

It seems likely that the 3-6 Cowboys will have to keep their options open at the starting quarterback position for the remainder of the season as they enter Week 11 at home versus the Houston Texans.
