Crime against women, children in riot in Maha, perpetrators fearless: Wadettiwar | India News

bombay high court

The alleged crime led to a massive protest in Badlapur on Tuesday, with the Bombay High Court subsequently taking cognizance of the child abuse on its own motion (soe motu).

Leader of the Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar on Saturday claimed that crimes against women and children are on the rise in the state and perpetrators need not fear the law.

He claimed that those who occupy the positions of Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister do not deserve these posts.

The Congress leader was speaking to reporters about the recent sexual crimes against women and children, including the Badlapur incident that has sparked outrage.

Wadettiwar alleged that there is no law and order in the state. Such incidents have brought shame to Maharashtra, he said.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has time to explain the Ladki Bahin Yojana scheme (an initiative aimed at women), but he does not have time to meet the families of the victims, the leader of the Opposition has said.

Most of such crimes are happening in Thane and the perpetrators are Shiv Sena supporters. They seem to have no fear as their leader holds the highest post, he said.

CM Shinde, chief of the Shiv Sena, is an influential leader from the Thane region.

Wadettiwar, who represents Bramhapuri assembly seat in Vidarbha region, said the crime graph has also shot up in Nagpur. Nagpur is the hometown of deputy CM and senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the home portfolio.

Those holding the seats of CM and deputy CM do not deserve these positions, he added.

The opposition bloc Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising the Congress party, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP), has targeted the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition after the Badlapur incident.

A male attendant allegedly sexually abused two four-year-old girls at a school in Badlapur town in Thane district recently.

The alleged crime led to a massive protest in Badlapur on Tuesday, with the Bombay High Court subsequently taking suo motu cognizance of the child abuse.
