Cristiano Ronaldo helps Portugal to the quarter-finals of the Nations League with a doubles match

Cristiano Ronaldo’s excellent bicycle kick helped Portugal reach the quarter-finals of the Nations League with a resounding victory against Poland.

With Portugal leading 4-0 in the final few minutes, Ronaldo acrobatically fired towards the far post for his second of the match.

All five Portuguese goals were scored in a dominant second-half display, with Rafael Leao getting the ball rolling when he headed in the opener.

The hosts were then awarded a penalty after a foul by Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior in the penalty area. Ronaldo stepped up and coolly sent the penalty through the middle.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes grabbed a fine third by driving in a fierce strike from the underside of the crossbar, before Chelsea winger Pedro Neto completed the big win with a powerful strike inside the near post.

Dominik Marczuk grabbed a late consolation for Poland but that did little to detract from the Portuguese fans’ celebrations after their stellar second-half performance.

The two goals for Ronaldo continued his excellent form in the competition, having now scored five goals in five Nations League games.

The victory means Portugal progress as winners of Group A1, but Poland cannot progress.
